Background of the Study
Sustainability in vocational education is increasingly recognized as a critical factor in ensuring long-term socio-economic development. In Yusufari Local Government Area, Yobe State, vocational programs are being scrutinized for their ability to deliver enduring benefits to students and communities alike. Sustainability in this context encompasses not only the continual availability of resources and funding but also the adaptability of curricula to meet evolving industry demands. Recent initiatives have sought to embed sustainability into vocational training by integrating environmentally friendly practices, updating technological tools, and forging partnerships with both public and private sectors (Adamu, 2023). These efforts are aimed at creating a resilient educational system that can withstand economic fluctuations and technological disruptions. In Yusufari, vocational education has the potential to serve as a transformative tool, equipping students with the skills required for both traditional trades and emerging industries. This dual focus is intended to ensure that graduates are not only job-ready but also capable of contributing to sustainable community development (Nasiru, 2024). Educational stakeholders have emphasized the need for curricula that are responsive to local economic conditions while also aligning with global trends in sustainability. However, despite these aspirations, there are significant challenges that threaten the long-term viability of vocational programs in Yusufari. Issues such as inconsistent funding, infrastructural decay, and limited access to modern teaching aids have raised concerns about the programs’ capacity to remain relevant over time (Bello, 2025). Moreover, there is a paucity of data on the long-term outcomes of these programs, which hampers the development of evidence-based policies aimed at sustaining vocational education. Against this backdrop, the present study seeks to evaluate the sustainability of vocational education programs in Yusufari by examining resource management, curricular adaptability, and stakeholder engagement. The research will provide a comprehensive analysis of how current practices are meeting the demands of a rapidly changing economic landscape, with a view to proposing strategies that can enhance program longevity and relevance. Ultimately, the study aspires to contribute to a broader understanding of sustainability in vocational education, offering insights that could inform policy reforms and drive future investments in the region (Ibrahim, 2024).

Statement of the Problem
Despite concerted efforts to promote sustainable vocational education in Yusufari, significant challenges continue to impede the long-term viability of these programs. One of the primary issues is the sporadic nature of funding, which affects the maintenance and upgrading of essential teaching facilities and technological equipment (Abdullahi, 2023). This financial instability often leads to the deterioration of learning environments and limits opportunities for practical training. Additionally, there is a notable gap between the evolving demands of modern industries and the content delivered in vocational curricula. The curricula, while designed to be forward-looking, frequently remain outdated due to infrequent reviews and revisions. Consequently, graduates may find themselves ill-equipped to meet contemporary workforce demands, thereby undermining the sustainability of the programs. Furthermore, there is limited collaboration among key stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector partners, and educational institutions. This lack of synergy hampers the creation of a robust support network essential for sustaining vocational education initiatives. In Yusufari, the challenges are further compounded by infrastructural deficits and a shortage of trained personnel capable of driving innovation within vocational programs. These issues collectively contribute to a scenario where the long-term impact and scalability of vocational education remain uncertain. The present study, therefore, aims to systematically assess these challenges, focusing on the sustainability of resource allocation, curricular updates, and stakeholder collaboration. By identifying and analyzing these factors, the research intends to propose viable strategies to enhance the sustainability of vocational education programs in Yusufari, ensuring that they continue to deliver meaningful and enduring benefits to the community (Nasiru, 2024).

Objectives of the Study:

  1. To evaluate the sustainability of resource allocation in vocational education programs.
  2. To assess the adaptability of vocational curricula to current industry needs.
  3. To identify strategies for enhancing stakeholder collaboration in sustaining vocational education.

Research Questions:

  1. How sustainable are current resource management practices in vocational education?
  2. To what extent do vocational curricula adapt to evolving industry demands?
  3. What strategies can improve stakeholder collaboration to ensure program sustainability?

Research Hypotheses:

  1. Adequate and consistent resource allocation significantly enhances the sustainability of vocational education programs.
  2. Vocational curricula that are regularly updated positively impact program sustainability.
  3. Strong stakeholder collaboration is essential for the long-term sustainability of vocational education initiatives.

Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it provides insights into the sustainability of vocational education programs in Yusufari, highlighting key areas for improvement in resource management, curriculum adaptability, and stakeholder collaboration. The findings will offer valuable recommendations for policymakers and educational administrators, helping to secure the long-term viability of vocational training in the region. These insights are critical for fostering an education system that supports enduring economic development and community resilience (Adamu, 2023).

Scope and Limitations of the Study:
The study is limited to evaluating the sustainability of vocational education programs in secondary schools in Yusufari Local Government Area, Yobe State. It focuses on resource allocation, curriculum adaptability, and stakeholder collaboration without considering other educational levels or regions.

Definitions of Terms:

  1. Sustainability: The capacity to maintain educational quality and resource availability over time.
  2. Vocational Education Programs: Structured training initiatives aimed at imparting practical and technical skills for various trades.
  3. Stakeholder Collaboration: The cooperative engagement of government, industry, and educational institutions in supporting vocational education.
